Bechtel wants another 220 million Euro to finish the first 42 km of the Transilvanian highway. From 2004 till now, Bechtel spent over 700 million Euro for the construction of the Transilvanian highway, without opening for traffic not even one kilometer. Forced by Radu Berceanu, the Minister of Transportation, to finish the 42 km of highway until the presidential elections, Bechtel conditions were the payment of an extra sum of 80 million Euro, representing the unpayed bills for june and july 2009.

The spokesman of the American company says that they will finish the 42 km, "only if there will be no more delay in paying the bills, and the weather will be good". On the other side, Radu Berceanu and the american company, agreed on a protocol regarding the works grafics and the payment of the bills for this year. The Romanian Government is paying now penalties of 30.000 Euro each day to Bechtel.
