Thousands of old cars that costumers scraped to get new ones were sold in poor countries form Africa and East Europe. German police found that at least 50.000 cars were exported with help from the organized crime.

The scraping program had an outrageous succes, the government subsidy beeing 2500 euros (3600$). Almost 1,7 million people scraped their old cars for new ones, and so Germany didn`t felt the auto crysis.

BAFA, the government agency that was in charge of the program said that they had no clue about the amount of scraped cars leaving Germany by thousands.

The program started with good intentions but because of the large number of demands they lost control.
